Smoking bans
Smoking is illegal on public transport and in all indoor workplaces and public places. Smoking is restricted in some outdoor areas where cultural, artistic, sports or entertainment activities are held.
History. Smoking was first banned in 1997 in public buildings with more than four workers, as well as airplanes and public buses. On 3 January 2008, Turkey passed a smoking ban for all indoor spaces including bars, cafés and restaurants. It also bans smoking in sports stadia, and the gardens of mosques and hospitals.
Smoking is prohibited in most indoor workplaces and public places. There are a few exceptions where ventilated designated smoking areas are allowed, including care facilities for the elderly, psychiatric hospitals, prisons, and hotel rooms.
Based on a 13.4% relative decline in prevalence between 2008-2012, in 2013, Turkey was declared the first country protecting its entire population with all MPOWER measures at the highest level. However, GATS 2016 showed that a smoking prevalence of 27.1% in 2012 rose to 31.6 in 2016.
Set the smoker to 225° F. Place the turkey on a cooking rack and cook for 8 to 12 hours or until the inner thigh temperature reaches 180° F. Check the temperature of your turkey after 3½ hours. Your turkey must pass through a critical range of 40° F to 140° F in 4 hours or less.
Türkiye ratified the WHO FCTC in 2004 and passed a law banning smoking in all indoor public places, including bars, cafes, and restaurants, in 20083. By 2013, Türkiye became the first country recognized by the WHO to implement all MPOWER (Monitor-Protect-Offer-Warn-Enforce-Raise) policies at the highest level3.
Low prices result in lower tax revenues. Even though tobacco consumption is higher than in major cigarette consuming countries in the EU, Turkey's cigarette excise tax revenue is among the lowest.
Mexico has some of the strictest anti-smoking laws in the world, including an outright ban in all public spaces such as beaches, parks and hotels.
Turkey smoking rate for 2020 was 30.70%, a 0.2% decline from 2019. Turkey smoking rate for 2019 was 30.90%, a 0% increase from 2018. Turkey smoking rate for 2018 was 30.90%, a 0.2% decline from 2015.
Restaurants. Turkish food is one of a kind worldwide, so tipping at restaurants has become much more common and expected throughout Turkey. A tip of 10% - 15% is considered appropriate at most places. You can leave it in cash on the table or ask the waiter to add it to the bill.
