Why does this happen? For starters, oxytocin and dopamine — the “love hormones” — have an effect on pupil size. Your brain gets a boost of these chemicals when you're sexually or romantically attracted to someone. This surge in hormones appears to make your pupils dilate.
The autonomic nervous system triggers various responses during emotions, such as arousal or happiness. The happy hormone, also known as dopamine, is produced when the body expects something good, such as a slice of cake or attention from a loved one. But the hormone can make the pupil widen as a side effect.
Pupil Dilation: When we feel attraction or love, our pupils can dilate. This physiological response can make our eyes appear larger and more vibrant. Emotional Expression: Love and affection can lead to increased emotional expression, which is often reflected in our eyes.
Eye contact has long been central to human interactions. Changes in emotion might cause pupil dilation. The autonomic nervous system triggers various involuntary responses during emotions, such as fear or arousal. Some research suggests that pupil dilation is one of these involuntary responses to arousal or attraction.
In empathic, healthy people (i.e. not psychopaths), oxytocin gets released after a hug, a sweet conversation, seeing a baby, or connecting strongly with someone. When oxytocin releases, pupils often dilate too. Eyes respond to love and fear the strongest.
Thus, pupil dilation is a well-documented response to sexual arousal. It remains unclear, however, whether pupillary changes reliably communicate one's sexual interests to others.
“You can often tell someone desires you with their eyes, and you can tell that they're feeling affectionate and fond of or interested in you, but I would say you can't tell true love through the eyes because love is so much deeper than only the eyes can show us,” says Dr.
Dilated pupils can be a sign of love, but your pupils may also dilate when you're angry, fearful, or are using excessive amounts of drugs or alcohol.
Dilated Pupils When In Love
It's the iris muscles that create the fluctuating effect on your pupils, which is ultimately controlled by the autonomic nervous system, a system also responsible for uncontrollable reactions like heart rates and goose bumps.
A guy's pupils may dilate if he likes you and thinks that you're attractive. His pupils might also dilate if he's in a dark room, feeling strong emotions like fear, anger, or excitement, or concentrating hard on some task.
