Cross-Dressing Voices: Daedalus is voiced by a woman in the Japanese, German, Spanish and French dub of the series.
Ergo Proxy first aired in 2006, ending that same year, the story spanning over 23 episodes. It was written by Dai Sato and created by Manglobe before the studio filed for bankruptcy in 2015. Ergo Proxy takes place in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian future in the city of Romdeau, encased in a dome.
This anime commits one of the cardinal sins in storytelling. That is, it relies HEAVILY on exposition. "Show, don't tell" is a piece of advice that Ergo Proxy would certainly have benefited from. Instead we are subjected to entire episodes full of almost nothing but exposition.

Vincent's first memories are of the journey to Romdeau after the (partial) destruction of the Mosk dome. Accompanied by other Mosk citizens, Vincent applied for and obtained an immigration permit. While in line to pick up his permit, he sees Re-L Mayer for the first time and falls in love with her.
Daedalus Yumeno has the appearance of a young boy no older than the age of 13 or 14, or even a young woman, but later, in a conversation with Raul Creed, it is revealed that he may in fact be much older. He is affectionately referred to as "The Prince" by Iggy.

It's not just dark in looks, but the tone as well. Ergo Proxy is a bit complex and is heavily influenced by Gnosticism and philosophy.
Monad was drawn to Vincent Law and killed by Ergo between Confession of a Fellow Citizen and Leap Into The Void. Monad's corpse is found by Re-l Mayer as she follows the escape route that she finds in Vincent's apartment.
