It's easy to confuse it with pain from your stomach, just to its left. Depending on the cause, a liver that hurts may show up as pain in the front center of your belly, in your back, or even your shoulders. Your liver doesn't actually have any pain receptors.
You likely won't notice an enlarged liver on your own. In some severe cases, you might notice a feeling of bloating or fullness in your belly, or an ache in your upper right abdomen, where your liver is. It's more likely your healthcare provider will discover it during an exam.
What can be mistaken for liver pain? Liver pain is often mistaken for right shoulder pain or back pain. Common signs of liver issues are also associated with gastrointestinal problems.
The likelihood of feeling an enlarged liver is unlikely. But because damage to your liver can cause an accumulation of fluid within your abdomen, you may notice that your stomach sticks out more than usual. You could also experience other symptoms like jaundice, loss of appetite, and stomach pain.
Four stages of liver failure define the progression of the disease: Stage 1: Inflammation. Patients may not have any symptoms at this stage, but some people may have tenderness on the right side of their abdomen. Elevated liver enzymes can be a sign of liver inflammation.
Liver pain can be worse lying down depending on the cause. For example, this can happen if there's irritation to your peritoneum, which is the thin layer of tissue covering your abdomen and most of its organs.
Symptoms of an inflamed liver can include: Feelings of fatigue. Jaundice (a condition that causes your skin and the whites of your eyes to turn yellow) Feeling full quickly after a meal.
Lower left abdominal pain is often related to diverticulosis and diverticulitis of the colon. Diverticula, pouches that develop in your colon wall, most often occur on the lower left side. These pouches make great hiding places for bacteria and can easily become infected, causing inflammation and pain.
For people with fatty liver, it is very important to get enough water. You should also drink more fruit juices, green tea, artichoke tea, or lotus tea, which are effective in preventing fat accumulation in the liver.
Vitamin B. Studies have shown that B vitamins can benefit liver function in several ways, including reversing liver inflammation. Many B vitamins, including vitamin B12 and folic acid, can improve liver health in people with fatty liver disease.
