Botox injections are shots that use a toxin to prevent a muscle from moving for a limited time. These shots are often used to smooth wrinkles on the face. They're also used to treat neck spasms, sweating, overactive bladder, lazy eye and other conditions. Botox shots also may help prevent migraine.
Botox (Botulinum Toxin) Botox® injections improve appearance by relaxing muscles that cause wrinkles. These injections also treat medical conditions, including migraines, hyperhidrosis, overactive bladder and eye problems. To maintain results, treatments should be repeated every three to six months.
Eventually, the action of the neurotoxin will wear off and the nerves will again be able to send those signals to the muscles to start working or contracting. In general, Botox lasts 3-4 months. There will certainly be patients in which in lasts longer, in that 4-6 month range, or shorter, in that 2-month range.
A Botox treatment is minimally invasive. It's considered a safe, effective treatment for fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. It can also be used on the forehead between the eyes. Botox was originally FDA approved in 1989 for the treatment of blepharospasm and other eye muscle problems.
Botox injectors are doctors or nurses who administer small doses of the medication Botox for medical or cosmetic reasons. They work in hospitals, medical clinics, and medical spas.
When you stop using Botox, you'll notice changes right away. The effects of Botox last about four months, so muscles in treated areas start moving again. At first, you'll see limited muscle activity, but over time, your face will show more expressions. Stopping Botox means wrinkles and lines will come back.
Patients claim that it “barely hurts” and many find that the results are well worth any discomfort, even the point of getting it done repeatedly. When the injection is taking place, you will feel a slight stinging at the injection site. This can be reduced by the use of a topical cream or ice pack.
Telltale signs of Botox include overarched eyebrows (Spock Brow)frozen facial expressionsfine lines around the nose (Bunny Nose)shiny skin due to uneven texture—all indicating excessive or improper use.
Although many people start getting preventive treatments in their 20s and 30s, there's no one “magic” age when you should start getting it. Instead, you should focus on your skin and its issues. Once you start noticing fine lines beginning to start, that's when you should consider Botox.
Pain, bruising, and skin color changes around the injection site are the most common side effects of Botox. Injection site reactions tend to show up shortly after your treatment and should go away on their own.
