Boron plays an important role in reducing the enzymes that cause an inflammatory response, reducing joint pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. Boron has anti-inflammatory properties that can help alleviate the symptoms of arthritis.
Boron can effectively repair osteochondral defects, which may make boron a promising method for the treatment of cartilage injury in OA (21).
Boron may be suitable for arthritis when taken in appropriate amounts. One study indicated that taking at least 3 milligrams per day of boron may have anti-inflammatory effects, which can help with osteoarthritis. It is also shown to positively impact the body's usage of testosterone, estrogen, and vitamin D.
Other research shows that animals and humans who ate a diet with boron supplementation had improved bone density.
Joint rigidity disappeared in one-half of the severe OA patients in the first 4 weeks. In the remaining one-half, joint rigidity decreased significantly, an average rigidity reduction of 50%. Mobility and flexibility were significantly improved in 50% of severe OA subjects at 4 weeks and in 62.5% at 8 weeks.
Since 1963, evidence has accumulated that suggests boron is a safe and effective treatment for some forms of arthritis. The initial evidence was that boron supplementation alleviated arthritic pain and discomfort of the author.
Glucosamine and chondroitin are two of the most commonly used supplements for arthritis. They're components of cartilage—the substance that cushions the joints.
If you have any condition that might be made worse by estrogen, avoid supplemental boron or high amounts of boron from foods. Kidney disease: Do not take boron supplements if you have kidney problems. The kidneys have to work hard to flush out boron.
The main sources of boron in the diets of people in the United States are coffee, milk, apples, dried and cooked beans, and potatoes, primarily because people tend to consume large amounts of these foods [7,15]. Among toddlers, 38% of boron intakes comes from fruits and fruit juices and 19% from milk and cheese [6,20].
Boron (B) is a naturally occurring trace element that protects the liver and supports its development [28]. In particular, dietary B intake positively affects liver metabolism and reduces the incidence of liver damage during early lactation [7, 27].
